“… We must not forget. When that government lies about what happened, demonizes the victims, calls them terrorists, and opens an investigation into one of their family members instead of the law enforcement agent who pulled the trigger, we cannot afford to look away. If we do, if what happened in Minneapolis becomes just one more horror to be tossed with the rest of the trash at the end of its news cycle, we will forever lose a big, significant piece of what it means to be an American.”
— Joyce Vance, Civil Discourse

From Gathering to Action:
Indivisibles Mobilize

It was a dark and chilly night when 40 members of the Indivisible Helena community gathered at Plymouth Congregational Church to share ways to actively protect democracy and bring light to the night through resistance actions and community solidarity.
Good Trouble Committee members described two new action projects:
- The Pop-Up Freedom & Democracy sign-waving actions scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 and and Wednesday, March 11
- The effort to contact all No Kings yard sign households and place a “VOTE” sticker on each sign and gather those people more closely into our community.
We discussed our new fundraising pitch explaining IH’s need to cover the significant cost of the upcoming No Kings III rally, as well as ongoing expenses of the organization. We hope folks who attended the February membership meeting experienced the value of connecting and committing to action together. Onward!

Helena Kids Are Doing It Right!
Looking for resistance inspiration? Look to Helena’s youth. About 25 Helena High students and 20 Capitol High students braved single-digit temperatures last week to protest the violence and lawlessness of ICE.
Chanting “Fund Education — Not ICE” and cheering on drivers who honked, and dealing with detractors who shouted, flipped the bird, and “coal-rolled” the group, the students never faltered in their commitment. Indivisible Helena was delighted to provide warm pizza in support of both groups.

The Supreme Court’s tariff decision extends far beyond tariffs.

Substack
Reich explains how the Supreme Court’s rejection of Trump’s claimed authority to levy tariffs affirms the constitutionally mandated separation of powers. The decision also blocks other executive overreaches into Congress’s authority, including withholding funds already appropriated by Congress and unilaterally committing the nation to war. The ruling makes clear that a constitutional red line exists — and that the president cannot cross it.

In the Fight Against ICE, Kids Are on the Front Lines

In These Times
“We need to recognize what is already the case: that young people are not just a part of our struggles, but at the forefront of them. This demands a thorough dismantling of how we conceptualize political solidarity and the adult-centric doctrine around what is and isn’t “serious organizing.” It will require listening to kids and showing up for them. More than that, it will require learning how and when to follow them.”
