Community Resistance is Rising — Are You In?

August 4, 2025

Helena PRIDE is Indivisible

Wow! Saturday’s Pride Parade was fantastic. Indivisible Helena marched in this joyful celebration to a loud and clear response from the crowds — NO KINGS!

Many thanks to all the marchers, parade organizers, flag wavers, banner carriers, and all the attendees. And WELCOME to all the folks who stopped at the IH table and picked up yard signs and signed up to be Indivisible members.

One Million Rising:
Community Resistance Gatherings Are Forming

Fifty-one Helena Indivisibles attended our first two sessions (July 16 and July 30), and IH is convening again on Wednesday, August 13, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Choir Room, at 6 p.m., for the final session, “What Now? Organizing Action.

Community Resistance Gatherings are small groups of people from a shared community (think church members, people who work in your field, your neighbors) getting together and learning about strategic non-cooperation. Participants are hosting Community Resistance Gatherings in the next two weeks.

Everything we learned in the first call, which was reviewed at the start of the second call, is what hosts are going to share with their guests:

  • We’re in a moment of authoritarian breakthrough, where a would-be authoritarian (Trump) attempts to rapidly consolidate power, eliminate checks on that power, and operate with impunity
  • We need to chip away at his power from the bottom, rather than the top. That means identifying the pillars of support upholding that power and putting pressure on them to oppose this regime.
  • The pathway to doing that is through identifying the power of your community and activating those around you.

If it’s simple enough to explain in a few bullet points, it’s simple enough to share. Sign up to host a meeting, and lead a conversation in your community. You don’t need to be an expert. The point is for you to share your new knowledge with your connections, so you can learn and resist together.

What will the actual gathering look like?

We’ve got you covered, with a full Community Resistance Gathering Host Guide to help you navigate these get-togethers, complete with goals, materials, details, and an extensive agenda. Again:

Wednesday, August 13
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Choir Room
6 p.m.

Plan on coming a bit early, and bring a friend who wants to organize with you to expand a community of resistance.

If you can’t join in person on the 13th, sign up to join the national call via Zoom.

Feel free to email us at indivisiblehelena@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Veterans, We Need You
Stand Together to Protect the VA

Veterans with Indivisible Helena are organizing — and they’re looking for fellow veterans ready to take a stand.

As threats to the Veterans Administration continue, including cuts to staffing and services, it’s time for veterans to speak out and push back. If you’re a veteran — or know someone who is — and want to be part of a local, nonviolent resistance to these attacks, join us.

Email veteransindivisiblehelena@gmail.com with your name and phone number. Help build a united front in Helena to defend the benefits and dignity veterans have earned.

The Illusion of Choice
Republicans in Congress routinely assert that veterans can easily find better and faster treatment outside the VHA. That’s because they assume that we have enough hospitals, primary care providers, specialty physicians, and mental health therapists to care for the country’s current patient load of 330 million nonveteran Americans, let alone nine million more veterans.”If you’ve tried lately to get an appointment with a medical doctor — particularly if you are on Medicare — you are aware there is a shortage of medical providers of all sorts. And if you’ve tried to see a mental health professional — well, that is like trying to lasso a unicorn (read the comments of family members of the shooter — a veteran — of the four people at the bar in Anaconda, and their attempts to get help for him from the VA and Montana State Hospital). This is just one of many problems with privatizing the Veterans Administration: privatization is a scheme to loot the public treasury and fatten the bank accounts of the already obscenely wealthy. This is a long read. Take the time. Know thy enemy.
