This Morning is Your Last Chance to Tell Congress “NO!” On the Budget Bill:
Senate Republicans passed their version of the Big Bad Bogus Billionaires’ Bill (aka the Reconciliation Bill) by a single vote—and now it’s back in the House. This bill is straight up horrible, but we still have an opportunity to stop it.
House Republicans are bitterly divided over the changes the Senate made to the bill. “Deficit hawks” want more cuts to Medicaid while vulnerable “moderates” believe (rightly) that the Medicaid and food assistance (SNAP) cuts are too deep and unpopular in their districts.
Republicans can only afford to lose three votes in the House. That offers a real opportunity to block this bill. But we need to be part of a massive pressure campaign right now!
Keep the pressure on by calling or writing Representatives Downing and Zinke. Here are a few of the terrible things in the bill that will deeply hurt Montanans that you can include in your messages:
- Massive cuts to Medicaid would leave an estimated 31,000-38,000 Montanans without health care coverage.
- Uncompensated healthcare that hospitals are required to provide without reimbursement will soar, leaving Montana hospitals in jeopardy. Many, especially in rural areas, will be forced to close.
- More than 81,500 Montanans will be denied food assistance; 7.2% of our population will see drastic reductions in food assistance.
- Montanans’ home utility bills will be higher because of cuts to clean energy investments.
- Medicare, the only health insurance for thousands of older Montanans, will be subject to mandatory cuts under existing law when triggered by a significant increase in the national debt.
The passage of this bill will start a “death spiral” of healthcare in Montana, affecting everyone (except the rich). Contact Congress Now!
